The Tastes of History tours are a partnership between Local Historia LLC and Downtown Bellefonte Inc. to highlight Bellefonte’s wonderful local businesses and history through fun and engaging beverage/food walking tours.
The 30-minute tour will offer a taste of Bellefonte’s history and will include a sample of the host merchant's products. Take a walk in the park, travel back in time, soak it all in.
Tour participants are encouraged to grab a bite to eat and have beverages following the end of the tour. Tours tickets will be capped to ensure social distancing and to follow Pennsylvania's COVID-19 guidelines. These spots will fill up fast!
Next tours are November 21, 2020 at either Big Springs Sprits or Good Intent Cider.
This tour offers a taste of Bellefonte’s history, including the Match Factory and the Big Spring itself, Talleyrand Park, and the Train Station. Highlights include working conditions in the Match Factory, Abraham Lincoln’s statue, and stories about local bootleggers. Historical photos will also be used to catch a glimpse of Bellefonte’s past at these locations. Take a walk in the park, travel back in time, and end up at Big Spring Spirits to soak it all in.
“Taste of History” Walking Tour at Good Intent Cider:
This tour offers a taste of Bellefonte's history, including the Good Intent Cider property itself and other highlights along S. Potter Street (Slaughterhouse Road). The route will then explore Bellefonte’s history as we walk to the train station, the Governors Memorial, the Bush House site, then to the AME Church on Halfmoon Hill to discuss the Underground Railroad in Bellefonte (this tour includes a steep hill). Historical photos will also be used to catch a glimpse of Bellefonte’s past at these locations. Last but not least, we do have a ghost story to share as well!
